FastRoots pays people who are already rooted in their community to verify every charitable food provider in their county, every quarter, in person or by phone. It is the part of this work that cannot be automated, and it is the reason the data is worth anything.
What a steward does
Talk to every provider in the county
Quarterly visits and calls with each food pantry, meal program, and distribution site — the whole county, not a sample.
Capture what a directory can’t
Hours and locations, yes. But also capacity, conditions, access requirements, and the needs a provider couldn’t meet this quarter.
Be the trusted human behind the data
Providers share honestly with someone they recognize. You are the reason the data is worth believing.

Paid per verification
This is compensated work, not volunteering. You are paid for each provider you verify.
Training and tools
We train you on the interview, the data standards, and the software. No technical background required.
Flexible hours
Verification runs on a quarterly rhythm, and you schedule your own visits around it.
Who tends to be good at this
People who already know their county — retirees, career-changers, people in the give-back stage of a working life. Comfortable talking to strangers, careful with detail, and unbothered by a spreadsheet. You do not need a nonprofit background or a technical one. You do need to be someone a pantry coordinator will be glad to see.
